Biography

A Life in Rhythm

Marcos Santana grew up with the percussion traditions of Salvador, Bahia — the birthplace of samba-reggae and its bloco culture.

In December 2005 he founded TRIBO in Morro de São Paulo on the island of Tinharé, creating a place for local children to develop their personalities, creativity and musical abilities.

He later brought the project to London, where he leads regular samba-reggae sessions, directs TRIBO's performances and delivers education programmes for schools, community organisations and companies.

His approach combines authentic Afro-Brazilian musical traditions with inclusive teaching, discipline, creativity and community development.
